Russ, back then every male who was fit for duty was a veteran.  I was appalled when Nixon announced that he was ending the draft and I feel that a lot of the problems our country faces now come from that.  We all learned how to get along with others, how to obey orders, how to look out for the other guy, and most importantly, that with all the rights we have come responsibilities.  Much of the racial progress came about in the Armed Forces when folks realized that people who were different color were still capable people.  Not saying there wasn't discrimination, but it was fading fast when I was in.

Anyway, I hope everyone had a good holiday, and thanks for letting me spout off!
