Pipes
« on: May 01, 2010, 10:42:40 PM »
Anyone have knowledge with building smoking pipes.  Materials used, etc.  I`ve been wanting to build a long stem smoking pipe and really did know what was used. I`ve heard a little bit about using reeds for stems but not much to go on.

Are you trying to portray some PC/HC character or just enjoy a good smoke?

A piece of cherry, apple, apricot or pear wood will make a fine bowl.  You could also check on carving a piece of calcite (sp) or soapstone. Use a reed for a stem.

I smoke a dandy pipe made from a deer antler. I get a lot of comments on it.

I have been making pipes out of pipestone from Pipestone National Monument.  Working with that stone is a pleasure.  People that I have given one of these pipe say they smoke fine.  I'm still looking for the right smoke to try out.

Nice pipes, Sneakon. You should see some of the work being done by the artisans there at the monument!
