Horn Placement on Bag

If you were going to affix a horn to a bag, are there any tips as to placement of the horn, and any other "I do this" or "I wished I'd done that"?

I have a new bag for my new .32 squirrel rifle, and a new horn, with leather thongs sewed to the horn staple and butt. Now I'm ready to sew the thongs to the bag strap, but I'm wondering as to where the horn should ride, i.e. how high above the bag?

I think a lot of it is personal preference. Mine is to have it at about the level of the bottom of the flap.

I think it's a matter of personal preference. It seems that a lot of horns that are attached to the shooting bag hang across the flap or below. In this case when getting into the bag you have to reach behind the horn to lift the flap of the bag. I like my horn to ride just above the bag, it's easier to reach into the bag plus it is less bulky that way. Most of my horns are on separate straps but I have a couple that have the horn attached to the bag, my .32 squirrel rifle bag & horn is one of these.

whatever way you mount the horn, make sure you have enough leather on the horn straps and mount it high enough that when you swing the horn up to use it, you do not have to swing the bag with it

OK, that is what I was thinking as well. I do not like the horn anywhere near the bag flap (personal preference). I have a horn that has it's own strap, and everytime I use it, it hangs right in the way of the flap and drives me crazy trying to retrieve stuff from the bag!  

So I was wanting this one above the bag flap, just wasn't sure as to how high.

Beav, I see what your saying about having enough horn strap.

Too bad that piece-o-sh** bag detracts from that beautiful horn!  Good job! The gun will look good with that rig!

When I build a bag for someone that needs the horn straps on it, I always make it with buckles and adjustable straps.

But that is a really nice looking rig ya got there Swamp!!

I don't do it, but there's the option of wearing the bag and horn on opposite sides. I've just cut out a bag for my new .50, and I'm thinking of trying a "cross carry" just to see how it works.

I cross-carry!, mostly because i really like this horn which has the left side carry curve. It didn't take long to get used to it, and no interference with the bag.

I bought the horn from Gary Elsenbeck last year, and I received the bag from Pathfinder to go along with my new .32 Southern Mountain Rifle he's building for me.
