That sounds about right. Ft. Mose isn't much of anything last time I was there. You'd get more opportunity to explore the Spanish side of the story if you went a few more miles south into town to the Castillo de San Marcos. It is, however, a drive of several hours from St. Simon's Island to St. Augustine.

Thanks! I didn't know about Castillo de San Marcos and will add it to the list! Google maps say 2 hours 20 minutes from Fort Frederica to Fort Mose but I think it's worth it to see the Spanish side.  Adding Castillo de San Marcos will make the trip much more worthwhile. I may allow a full day for the Florida destinations including driving time.

I just wish I had been interested in this when I was in the army. I was in Panama and Cuba both of which have sites related to the War of Jenkin's Ear. I doubt there was much to see in Cuba but I probably could have gotten to Portobelo in Panama. Actually we did go to Colon but it wasn't to see historical sites!

Edited to add: can you comfortably do all three Georgia locations in one day?

Frederica and Ft. King George...yes. My wife and I spent several hours at Frederica, usually it's about the same at Ft. King George. It would be a squeeze to get Wormsloe in for us in the same day.

Good to know. I'll plan two days for the Georgia sites. I know it's a different time period but since I'm driving by do you think it's worth stopping at Fort Caroline in Jacksonville?

Right now it is looking like this
Tuesday drive to Savannah.
Wednesday and Thursday do Wormsloe, Ft. King George and Frederica
Friday drive to Ft. Mose, Castillo de San Marco and maybe Fort Caroline returning to Savannah that night.
Saturday go to the reenactment
Sunday drive home

Does that sound realistic?

Yes, that sounds very doable.

Ft. Caroline isn't a bad place. It's pretty small and sort of a pain to get to due to traffic in Jacksonville. There's not much to the site itself though. I'm glad I went but I probably won't feel the need to go back anytime soon. Frederica and Ft. King George and even the Castillo (with all it's tourists) offer way more to the "historical explorer" in my opinion.

Just sell her with tales of the beauty of St. Simon's Island, the wonderful food of Savannah, and the sunshine and beaches of NE Florida!!!! Leave out the "no see'ums" and 200% humidity though!

If you really want to plan around an event at Wormsloe, they have one in Sept called "Tools and Skills that built a Colony" It is suppossed to be a bigger event than The War of Jenkins Ear(which was just a cannon and musket display and a few others) If I wind up going to the tools and skills, I'll give you an update if you want. I would rather have you come down for a big event versus a smaller one.
