Been doing a little shopping, sort of. BUT can anyone explain to me exactly why modern small pistol primers and less than 1/2 the cost of percussion caps per 1000.   I am just baffled.  cant hardly afford to shoot anymore, BUT , that wont stop me.

Dixie Gun works used to sell a cap puncher and you punched the caps from a soda can and used a toy cap inside it. I know caps are getting close to $6.00 a 100ct tin here. I may order one up myself soon, as I have two flinters to 6 percussion guns.

The answer to your question is demand. The demand for regular centerfire primers is way higher than percussion caps for muzzleloaders. The more of anything you make the cheaper they get per unit and is reflected in the retail price.
