Lead gone?
« on: August 10, 2014, 05:59:16 PM »
I was at my monthly shoot this past weekend and a member said that the last lead manufacturer in the U.S. was going to shut down, so there will eventually be no more lead for balls  :(  . I not heard of or seen anything mentioning this in any of the ML mags, threads, etc.

Any truth to this at all or just a meeting talk rumor?

Thanks

Old news. Last PRIMARY (ie from ore) smelter in the US shut down last December. Still have recycled lead smelters in the US and primary smelters overseas.

The bullet makers aren't worried. Sierra Responds: How Will the Closure of the Lead Smelting Plant Affect Sierra Bullets? | Sierra Bullets

Your bigger worry is California style legislation prohibiting lead bullet use.

biliff,
Maybe they think it is lead that is causing droughts, wildfires and bankruptcy. They have
never seen a problem that a new law couldn't fix.
