Can't get from full cock....
« on: March 13, 2016, 02:24:57 PM »
I have never had this happen in all my years of shooting. I wanted to shoot my rock lock .50 and get a few rounds through it so I could scrub the bore and fully clean the gun. Well I loaded some powder and a patch w/o a ball. I went to full cock and then tried to set the trigger, no click?????? Then I went to try and lower the hammer from full cock and NO GO??? I couldn't shoot the gun or get it down from full cock, and there hangs the tale of woe is me!!!!! Any body got any suggestions......>"Doc"  :hairy

Doc,
Sounds like you are having some blockage there somewhere.
So, open the frizzen and dump the powder from the pan.
Then unscrew the lock screw(s) and pop the lock out.
I would guess you can see where it is binding up with the lock out and the mortise open.
Let us know.

I suspect it is a trigger bar binding. I had the same thing happen on a gun I am currently building.
My set triggers work just fine before I put the lock bolt in and threaded it into the trigger plate. That little bit of tightness from the lock bolt pulled the trigger assembly in slightly and the front trigger bar was hanging on the front of the mortise. I blacked the trigger assembly, reinstalled it, tried to make it function(it wouldn't), pulled it back out and could clearly see where the front trigger bar was binding on the wood. A little chisel work and it worked just fine.

If the lock is clear you have a stock inlet problem with wood touching the works some where.

Lock needs refitting.

Sometimes the lock screws were to tight but tht means the same problem.

I had the same problem one time. Backed out the screw and the problem went away. Like I said, sometimes you have to fuss with em.  :Doh!
