Made me a new flint wallet
« on: July 14, 2016, 07:38:50 AM »
I've been needing a new flint wallet for a while now and I finally got around to making one. This one is a vast improvement on the old one I had made in both looks and function. I know it's too modern for a lot of folks here but life is too short to go around with ugly equipment. I made this out of deer hide and the inlays are dyed ring lizard. I used rare earth magnets for the clasping mechanism and sewed it all up by hand using artificial sinew. Now it's time to go out and kill some more squirrels!

Nicely done! You could do some high level trading with that one!

WOW!
Beautiful piece of work..... <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/fing34.gif" alt=":lt th" title="lt th" />
Tremendous talent displayed in that simple flint wallet.

When it comes to being "too modern", all I can say to that is life is far too short to pack around ugly flint wallets.
Many old folks, such as myself, seem to agree that the new fancy / fancier "stuff" the current generation of muzzleloaders comes up with, has an eye appeal that has not been equaled, or even witnessed before now....this simple flint wallet is a fine example!

When it comes to thinking about the PC / HC controversy, I feel we sometimes get carried away and overlook the real artistry of the object, or person, being emulated.

If you look closely, ie, actually count the logs in the small diagram below, you may understand my own take on the age old PC / HC controversy just a wee bit better.

Uncle Russ...

It's the many things we don't do that totally sets us apart.
