My Yard Sale Blade (Update link added)
« on: September 25, 2016, 11:23:50 AM »
.

Last weekend, I ran across this unfinished Colonial Knife Co 6" bowie blade for $2, and thought that I'd finish it as my next project.

As soon as I got back home, I ordered a brass cross-guard, a set of black Micarta scales, and a pack of brass rivets from the CRAZY CROW TRADING POST ($15), which I fitted yesterday after they arrived in the mail.

I started the by filing/fitting the crossguard to the tang via enlarging the pre-made slot in the guard so it slides onto the tang.

I also started polishing out the blade, and will permanently affix the guard when the polishing is done.

(after a slight blade polishing)

It's definitely a work in progress, and when the final polish & guard install is done, I'll start on the Micarta scales.

(to be continued............possibly also making a leather sheath for it.  :walk  )

Nice!
Don'tcha just love such finds!

I've complimented many fellas over the years on their choice of hunting knives, and it is not uncommon at all to hear, "Oh, that's no big deal, I picked this old blade up at a Yard Sale for a buck or two and thought I would finish it out".....many of these knives turn into really nice knives with only minimum work.
What I want to know is where are all these things when I stop at a yard sale?

For those who may be interested, I've posted some more of the work I've done on this blade, in our craftsman section:
