Four pictures of a flintlock rifle made and signed by the father of the Hawken Brothers before they went into business.

Wouldn't that be a great piece of history to own.  :hairy

Did anyone else notice the plugged sight dovetail in front of the "H" in the Hawken signature?

Kind of makes a person wonder if the barrel was re'purposed, and/or the new owner (or original owner) had the rear sight moved? Could be some sight history to look at and speculate, if we had a complete picture of that top flat.

Beautiful!

I understand that it was fairly common to move rear sights forward on a barrel as the owner's eyes aged.  something about getting better focus through them.  :Doh!

...., and rather than risk havin' my rear sight (eventually) wind up just a couple inches behind the front sight,... I've pretty much completely switched to shootin' smoothbores.
I still can't hit nuthin', but now I have an excuse.  :laffing

Thanks Hank, mighty kind of you, but I got my rear sight setting so for out on the barrel, Russ out in Washington State is the one tapping it left or right for me when needed... :toast  :shake
