Thoughts on the Cabelas Pedersoli Hawken ?

I've never owned a Pedersoli Hawken, but not because I wouldn't like to have one.   

However, I have owned a older Pedersoli Penn Longrifle in .45 cal for about 15 or so years, and there are few rifles I've ever owned that performed better, or was more consistent as a flintlock....I can't ever remember a single misfire with this rifle, and I shot it a lot back in its early days!
Like both Rondo and Joe said, there is a very good chance that Pedersoli is indeed one of the very best imports.

Do they use shallow or deep rifling ?

I don't know as I couldn't find that specification in their specs. However, my guess would be shallow if they advertise Ball and Conical loads. Thompson Center's Hawken Rifles were usually .005 depth because of using Patched Ball and Conical, so I would guess the Pedersoli Hawken would be much the same. (Just a guess of course).

The only Pedersoli rifle I have has shallow rifling and requires a tight patch.  Bore butter and the like don't work well.  Spit and dry lube work the best, dry lube being 8 or 9 to 1 ratio.

It also depends on which rifle you are talking about. Cabela's lists 5 different Hawken rifles and they vary greatly.
