Best packing material for mailing flints - cookies!
« on: April 09, 2019, 08:21:46 AM »
My buddy, John Pruitt, called me last week all in an uproar. He needed some flints and Terry Jo, at Muzzleloader Builder's Supply, was out and didn't know when they would get any. John was ready to mount an expedition to the UK but I talked him off the ledge and told him I would find some for him. John is 78 and does not own a computer so his connection to the outside world is either the telephone or the USPS.

While we were one the phone, John mentioned that it had been a while since I had sent him any cookies so I figured I would kill two birds with one stone. I ordered up a dozen flints from TOTW and had them shipped to me. I then called John and told him I had his flints and that I would protect them by wrapping a bag of homemade cookies around them. He seemed pleased with my ingenuity and now he is anxiously awaiting the arrival of his package.

The flints

The first batch of packing material to come out of the oven. John's favorite is my chocolate chip sea salt caramel cookie.

Getting ready to box everything up!

Yep, TwoSteps, when they come packaged like that, I would suspect we could all use a few more flints.

Good on you Darren for taking such good care of your friend, but that's what friends do.

When I was in the Army a hundred years ago or so, my mom used to send me occasional care packages.  Fun things like salami, hard cheeses, cookies, etc.  Her packing material of choice was bags of popcorn.  Man, I gotta tell you, hardly anything goes better with warmish beer than slightly stale popcorn.

Send me some flints packed like that  :bl th up
and I'll convert my cap gun over to flintlock.

I promise  :laffing
The trouble with doing things right the first time is no one realizes how hard it was.
Often, however, the following is more applicable.
I stand corrected, a position somewhat painful to achieve, but once there, is quite satisfying.
