Old Hickory Hunting Knife!
« on: March 22, 2020, 08:59:35 PM »
I just saw this knife: https://www.knifecenter.com/item/OH7026/old-hickory-hunting-knife-55-carbon-steel-blade-leather-sheath

I was thinking of modifying an Old Hickory butcher knife to do what has recently been done, so I don't need to now.

Might need to sand and grind the name off the handle and blade, but I will never need to be PC so that doesn't matter either.  I have several OH knives in the kitchen and like them a lot.  Good carbon steel blades which keep an edge and are easy to sharpen.  Just have to watch out for rust; clean and dry them after use and you are good to go.  Some folks oil them but I haven't found that needful.

These are back ordered now it looks like.  I see that some outfit on Amazon has one available for (hold on to your hat) $60, which is twice what MSRP is!

The Old Hickory knives are mighty fine.

My choice has always been the Green River ones..  Love 'em.  Couldn't cook without them.

$60.00 does seem a bit steep, regardless what the brand is.

Yes sir, MSRP is a touch under $30.  However, the manufacturer said they won't be available again until the end of March, and that was before the Coronavirus hit.  The Amazon site has one in stock, so they are scalping big time the way I see it!  :o

.

That looks to be the same naked Green River pattern blade that I bought (a 5" Hunter), so I could do some experimental handling using spacers.

Working off a pic of a knife I spotted, I built the handle using spalted Maple with copper/plastic/Bakelite spacers.
