My Medicine Pouch
« on: January 03, 2021, 12:44:27 PM »
.

I wanted a small pouch/bag that can hold medications, fire-starting tools, smokes - whatever.

I made it so that when the draw strings close the pouch mouth, it can be suspended from a waist/belt, or possibles bag strap, etc, etc.

I hand sewed it up from some tanned buckskin I had on hand,  loosely patterned it after a Western Apache Medicine pouch I had seen.

I laid several different designs out on paper first, then copied (not traced) this design choice (a mix of the design features I drew) freehand onto the buckskin with a pencil.

I have several small bottles of fabric paints & dyes from a craft store, and a pack of small artist's brushes.

I cut the brush bristles at an angle with a razor blade, filled in the various areas with color, and did the black outlines with the thinnest brush tip I had.

Then, after everything dried, I stained the bright yellow buckskin (chrome tanned ? ) & the design with a brown gel stain, wiped off when still wet for an "antique" effect.

It's been awhile but when I was heavy into trad archery I used make all sorta stuff with leather. Made a plains style side quiver, fringe and all just from some plans in a book
The tandy store is in spokane, 1hr + drive.

Kevin,  There is another leather store in Spokane besides Tandy.  I am sure you can Google for the name and address.
