Phelps family info requested
« on: January 21, 2023, 02:23:24 PM »
My wife is a member of the DAR, and her patriot, George Phelps, did his Rev War military duty at Fort Boonesborough, Ky. where he lived with his father, brother, sisters, and uncle. My TMA buddy in Pa (No Powder) recently sent us a photocopy of a 2008 TMA Journal article, written by Mike Rumping. Mr. Rumping was a TMA member, but unfortunately, he passed away in 2020. He also was descended from the Phelps family, and thus was related to my wife as a cousin. My wife will be giving a talk on her patriot at a DAR chapter meeting this spring, and she is searching for as much info as possible. If anyone has an original copy of the 2008 TMA Journal in which the article "The Phelps Family in Kentucky" appears, and wouldn't mind parting with it, we would appreciate receiving it. We're requesting it only due to the fact that the photocopied one that No Powder sent didn't render the photos very well, and there is a pic of Thomas Phelps' powder horn that we would love to see. The article also appeared in the first issue of Pioneer Times Multi Media Magazine (don't know when that was), but if anyone has that and would like to furnish it, that would be appreciated too. Mrs. Rumping is also deceased and attempts to contact their adult children has not been successful. Strange but true -- the town where the Rumpings lived, as shown on Mike's TMA profile, is only about eight miles from where we live. Unfortunately, we didn't learn any of this until a couple weeks ago. If there are any other Phelps descendants out there, please shoot me a PM. We will be happy to reimburse anyone who sends info. Thanks to all!

Good luck with your search!

A huge "thank you" to LongWalker from my wife and me! That image of Thomas' powder horn has us both hopping around like little kids at Christmas. The color photos will very much help with her DAR presentation. An additional helping of thanks also goes to No Powder, who was so interested in her family's story to remember the details and send the photocopy of the article. Thanks to you both!   :hairy

Glad it helped!  Those back issues are interesting, but sort of buried.  I knew I remembered seeing them somewhere, while I was checking out the org prior to joining.  Good thing I hadn't cleared my browser's cache!

Here's a link to the journals.  I'm not sure how to get to them from our home page, I copied the link Longwalker posted, then used that as the address with the "journal7.pdf erased.
