High 50's with a moderate breeze blowing.  I think most of it is coming from Sacramento.  Shut up, Newscum.
Mostly clear skies here in LaLaLand.

41 here at 8PM in the Southern Tier of NY.  8" of snow we got earlier in the week is almost gone.  46 for the high tomorrow then the bottom drops out and we have some 14-degree nights coming.  Fortunately, nothing below zero.  Unfortunately, along with our warm temperatures we are under a high wind advisory with gusts up to 60MPH.  Already had one short power failure.

It was 10 this morning, the 13th, at my house in southwest Missouri. Wind is not blowing yet but is supposed to start cranking before too long. The high today is supposed to be around the mid 20's with a below zero wind chill.

I guess we must be in the banana belt!  30* on our front porch now with a light skiff of snow on the ground. It's going to get in the teens and lower (for the lows) with highs in the 20s all week according to NOAA Weather.  Some more light snow and wind also.  I think I'll bring in some more wood and throw another dog on the fire!  Maybe I'll make some cookies this afternoon to warm up the kitchen area.  And to think that, in years past, I thought those were shirt sleeve conditions!  :o

Kees, so true.  Maybe not shirt sleeve weather, but maybe a sweat shirt or just a flannel shirt.  I didn't used to think it was chilly until it got under 20 or so.
I recollect fondly snowmobiling in minus 0 degree weather when we would go to Yellowstone in January.  Those were the days.  Now that I am somewhat older, and on blood thinner meds, I have lost all tolerance for  cold weather.  I've been inside all day and my hands are still cold.  Ugh.
John

PS:  Are you going to really throw another dog on the fire, or did you mean log? :luff:

.

I'm in Southern New England, where the temp hit 60-degrees yesterday afternoon, then dropped to just below freezing last night.

Only one snow storm so far this Winter, last week (5"), plenty of rain & flooding, though.

13o here this morning when I drug myself downstairs.  It was up to 30 a little bit ago. It's supposed to get down to 8o tonight, but then it warms up again to the upper 20s for the rest of the week according to NOAA weather.

Walked to the P.O. this morning with the dog faithfully alongside.  I was going to go a bit further so he could run but the highway crews had spread deicer and our main drag was wet.  Not good for the bare dog feet!  We turned around and went home again.

There was a guy in Ketchikan who went barefoot all the time, even in winter.  He told me he only wore boots to come to town because they salted the roads and the melted snow would freeze his feet.  Otherwise snow didn't bother him.  Think of that when you are walking a dog (or see someone doing so) where there is deicer on the pavement!

Put 10 rounds through a Kibler Colonial at -10F.  A little stiff loading but no other problems (patch lube was neatsfoot oil).  Not the coldest I've shot a flintlock, but close--maybe the coldest rifle-shooting I've done with a flintlock.

I was dressed for the weather, and wanted to get some chronograph numbers in the cold.  FWIW, my MV dropped from a 10-shot average of 1920 fps at 92F to a 10-shot average of 1795 fps at -10F.  Would have played with some lower charges to get comparative numbers but the chronograph battery froze up.

Winter is part of living.  Years ago I was at a rendezvous up in SoDak that got cold enough there was slush in the rum keg someone left outside the lodge.  That was cold.  More concerning is getting caught out in the open by sudden changes in weather.

Winter of . . . '82 I think. . .I got caught by a blizzard while running my traps.  I was down in a little valley and heard the wind, looked up in time to see a wall of snow roll over the hills, and then I couldn't see 3'.  Because I was reasonably prepared (canvas ground cloth for setting traps, tin cup, a wool blanket, plus coat etc) I just holed up in a plum thicket til the snow stopped a couple days later.

Good times, all.

Don't give Tesla any idea's Hank...  :laffing

Like Long Walker mentioned, this ol' Nebraska weather can change in a heart'beat... When ML Deer hunting in December, I'm not only hunting deer, I'm keeping and eye open for decent shelter if'n a snow storm should decide to come up... It's happened a few times, but that's Nebraska...

Winter of '84 I was a freshman college student at Chadron.  I was out running the hills a mile or two south of campus right before Thanksgiving when the blizzard hit, spent a day holed up in some cedar trees in a gully.  Plains weather is like that.
