the PHOTOBUCKET SCAM of the new millennim
« on: July 15, 2017, 05:55:23 AM »
photobucket is taking their tens of thousands (millions?) of users and holding their images hostage and totally screwing up tens of thousands (millions?) of worldwide forums, blogs and other online social media outlets in an effort to squeeze a ridiculous amount of extortion dollars to line their coffers.

$400 a year to host images???? I THINK NOT! there are FAR BETTER online image archive services to use for FREE.

i left them over a decade ago because i saw their unscrupulous handwriting on the cyber wall. and since they went "social media" viewing images on scumbucket is slow, full of ads, and very very restrictive. there is no need for any of that, no need to put up with it at all.

if you made the huge mistake of putting your images up in their cloud and didn't save them on your computer, start downloading them now and LEAVE THOSE CRIMINALS ASAP!

you can transfer yer images to any free online image archive service and get FAR better service to boot ... FOR FREE.

i've been using www.imgur.com for many years, and recommend it highly.

I always put my photos on the computer but don't know enough about computers to know if they are still there or not.  A while back I started downloading as many pics from PB to the computer and imageBB.  Also did the same thing with "postimage.com" but they don't seem to work; or at least only 3 or the pics stayed there.  So uploading photos from PB  doesn't always "take".  So those dung piles  are holding the rest of my pics hostage.

because more than a few of you are questioning what the heck is going on with photobucket, here's an excellent blog post by an author who clearly describes the path that photobucket has taken and why it's been so frustrating for her and others ...

Rob....Thanks for the update on this ugly issue.
It appears, so far, that I have been lucky. but I also spent much of the day removing everything from PB to Imgur...which has worked flawlessly.

Wish I had known about Imgur a long time ago!  :bl th up

Just how do you remove your pictures from PB?  I can't seem to find the right door.  I even tried to email them to myself...just ended up with a link back to PB.  Remember, I know as much about computers as I do about brain science and rocket surgery  :o

Al, I removed mine from PB yesterday.
Click on the picture as though you were going to upload it to post it on the forum.
To the right of the photo you have all the selections on how you want to use that picture,
eMail & IM
Direct
Html
Html / thumb

Under all that you will see in smaller print "Options"
Download is the option you want to click on

Down load your pictures and SAVE them back to you computer,
When you decide who your new host will be, ie imgur or who ever you choose, you upload your pictures to that system.

I just noticed on another forum that I am involved in that Photobucket has plastered their hype all over the background.  Very irritating.  What a bunch of jerks.

no matter what, if you can at least see your image in your photobucket account, but photobucket won't allow you to download it back to your computer, most computers have (or can have) a screen capture that will allow "cropping" the image out of your screen and saving it back to your computer.  a screen capture app comes with the free linux operating system that i use.  "tiny take" is a free screen capture app for windows (full disclosure: just heard about it, never used it).

Just read an article on Photobucket and its CEO, John Corpus. When asked if the company expected the backlash, Corpus bowed his head and waited 12 seconds, then answered "No." People have left Photobucket in droves. The big complaint, other than the steep cost, was the way in which the change was implemented.
He claimed that notification emails went out explaining the change, but admitted that most were blocked as spam or ignored.
The main office, once filled with about 60 employees, is almost empty.
There is a lesson to be learned, here, about treating your customers properly.

Thanks Russ...I'll give it a try.  I don't really have much on PB, and what I do have there I'm pretty sure is already saved on a disc...
