Ok who here uses lead to hold thier flints in the hammer?
How do you like it over leather? I heard a fellow say lead does beeter than leather. Just havn't had the chance to try it for my self.

I have used both leather and lead and it seems to depend on the shape of the flint in my rifle for some strange reason.  It's really a matter of choice because both work.  I do tend to stray to the thinner suede deer leather if I am using leather.

I think it's a hold-over from days of the Wheel lock.
I found that it compresses if used for flints after a while and slips.
But, for the Pyrite wedge in a Wheel lock it works well.

another FYI, if you use lead in a Chambers lock, any warranty is null and void, I use leather, havn't had any problems as of yet

I tried lead, but went back to using leather.

Save your lead for makin' balls. I have never had any trouble with leather in my frizzen, but tried lead once and it didn't work well for me.

My Pedersoli Kentucky had lead when I got it, but after the flint slipped or moved the first three shots I put a piece of leather in and no more problems...

I think I read somewhere that lead was a military thing.
  Most civillian and rifles used leather.   If I recall corectly.

Leather!  Tried lead once & didn't like it.

I use thin suede deer hide or boar hide.  I too, have tried lead and do not like it.

i never tried sueded leather, but use a piece of buckskin. probably pretty much the same

Yup, buckskin. Doe might work too.
