Iron sights

Anyone here ever change the so called sights on a TC Renegade? Would like to go to something smaller than a fence post and a fence staple. Fixed sights or even a ramp style rear sight and thinner front sight. I'd just as leaf not do any major construction, ie no rebluing or sech. At 50 yds all I can see is the paper, the bull disappears! Much obliged for any ideas.

Those things are pretty coarse, aren't they?  Here's a few suggestions.  If you know anyone with a milling machine it's no biggie to shave the sides of the front sight to make it thinner.  That would be the easiest and more precise option.  Lacking that the sight can be thinned down with a flat file.  Use one with a safe edge (no teeth  on the edges) so you don't get into the sight base while filing.  Make two easy passes on one side and two on the other until you get to where you want to go.  For the rear sight TC makes a nice peep that is mounted on the tang.  Older Renegades came pre-drilled for mounting the sight.  Newer ones require the drilling and tapping on a single hole.  If you want something more traditional you can replace one or both sights with irons from Track or one of the other suppliers.  Going that route means cutting a couple of dovetails if I'm remembering correctly that the Renegade sights are installed by screws.  Again, the best way to cut dovetails is on a milling machine but the old time gunmakers did it with files.  Finally, if you don't mind modern, Williams makes their Firesight to fit TC rifles.

There's probably other options that I haven't thought of.  I'm sure others will have suggestions as well.

Thanks John, I googled up the same question  posed here and I found a rear sight on  The Gun Works web site for 20 bucks that is a r&r job with screws. The front blade I will leave in place and file to thickness I need. This rifle was made for hunting, that's why it has the Humvee over built sights on it. They will take a lot of abuse but it sure makes it hard to target shoot. It has a well deserved reputation for reliability and accuracy. I just want to see more of the target. Thanks again,GH.
