New Years Rawhide Sheath
« on: January 01, 2017, 01:20:44 PM »
Was bored yesterday and was looking at the dogs Christmas gift when I felt inspired to make my first rawhide project. I have a garage sale Old Hickory scalper that needed a sheath so here is my first try. I used the thinner piece of hide from the bone but next time will use the thicker hide. I was going to stitch it with rawhide cordage but maybe not this try. I ran out to Hobby Lobby for a spool of faux sinew.

I dyed it with a batch of strong coffee.

I plan to add some simple beading. Next try will be with fringe and maybe some more beading or horsehair.

That looks great El Toro.  :hey-hey

This is the type of knife sheath I like to make for my Green River butchers,... it has a thick leather inner-core, wrapped with buffalo rawhide.

Wow something to aspire to. I stitched a belt loop on the back of mine. Is yours just a thong? How is it affixed?

Here's another I made with thick leather inner-core, wrapped in beaver tail.

I wear this sort of sheath tucked into my belt, or sash,... with the thong tied to the belt/sash to prevent the sheath from slipping out of place.  :rt th
