Harpers Ferry pistol
« on: April 04, 2019, 03:04:10 AM »
I picked this last Memorial weekend on my way back from Mn. It was a .54 and I had Ed Rayle duplicate and make me a new barrel in .62 smooth as a companion to my other smoothbore long guns.I also wanted to get rid of the factory finish so I stripped it and went with boiled linseed oil x7.Hope to get it done real soon as I have more builds on deck. Its a Pedersoli originally.

How is the ignition on that pistol.

40+ years ago, I had one of them and if it went off, it was a great surprise.  Ye gods, that thing was terrible.

One would surely think that in that period of time, things have gotten better.
One thing for sure, Mr. Pedersoli gets a little tight jawed when a flaw is brought up about one of his products.  We used to have a lot of problems with the springs on his Irish Shot Valves.  He sure didn't like to be told about that. :lol sign
I am sure that a few heads might have rolled when he got back from the SHOT Show.

Bigsmoke, This is the factory .54 barrel and I checked the touch hole today with a 3/32 transfer punch. Pretty ugly.  The whole barrel needs to go back about 1/8" but thats not doable, so being as though the new barrel has the same length breech plug, I'll either have to drill the touch hole at the same angle, OR maybe it would be better to install a coned th intersecting the face of the bp or very slightly rearward of the face.  [ Invalid Attachment ]
