Lost the Trail fur awhile
« on: January 20, 2021, 06:30:50 AM »
Hey guys.

My sincere apologies for the extended absence. Between the Covid lockdown, politics and the general malaise of aging, I have been having a difficult time. Hopefully though, I have picked up the trail again.

This is the first deer season in over 35 years that I didn't hunt. I still feel a big part of who I am is missing.

Anyway...miss you guys and will try to reconnect.

Being a newbie, I know I'm not in the fold to be "missed" but I surely and sorely MISS hunting...

Haven't been to the erstwhile club range all year since its not kind to those who shoot shorter distances for testing, etc...and probably won't renew this year..

Being hobbled with a cane and knowing few folks I'm not / Wasn't inclined to spend 25.00 for a special permit to hunt an area of WMA that I've scoured for four years, in and out of seasons, without so much as spotting one rub or scrape but lots of cow dung, so I gave up hunting as well... I couldn't get a deer out if my life depended on it...

I can relate to your angst... when what you counted on as part and parcel of life goes away one has to make adjustments...

Life goes on ---till it doesn't.. :o

Ray, good to see you!!!

We were beginning to think the Injuns captured you and was making you part of the tribe, so's we decided to send out a search party for you. Unfortunately before we left we set drinking in the Tavern for 3 days... Well eventually the proprietor says, "weren't you fellers gonna do something?"

Well, those of us who could, we kind of straightened up and looked at each other a bit bewildered, trying to remember why we were in the Tavern in the first place???

Needless to say when we got home to our women folk - they grounded us all for six months... Our time's about up for those of us who didn't try to run off from the ol' homestead... However, those poor feller's that did make a dash for it,,, well they got hungry and went back home only to find their women folk tacked on 3 more months on top the previous 6 month grounding...

It's good to see you for sure Ray!!! :shake

I'm with you on that.  Only been to the woods once in the past three years; and of course the past rotten year!

Good to see you back!  Don't let all that other stuff get you down ("Illigitimi Non Carborundum" - a sign in the mess hall on Adak).

 :hairy

Thanks for all the welcome backs. I have decided that I am going to get into the woods one way or another...until I physically can't. Hunting has always been a huge part of that, but there's always next year...right. Until then, I will just trekk or set me up a half-face camp, smoke my pipe and ponder the wonders of the universe.

And it is damned good to be back...

Ray, it is my opinion that the year 2020 is not a year many of us would like to re-visit.
Glad to see you've found your way back!

And, if yer ever up in this neck of the woods, do stop in for a cup of Joe.

Ray, ya know, this ain't a bad substitute for us aging folk:    "...set me up a half-face camp, smoke my pipe and ponder the wonders of the universe".  Welcome back, hope thing continue to improve.
Lord, make my words as sweet as honey for tomorrow I may have to eat them.  Amen

I have to admit...I have actually feelin' better just with the thought of getting in some camp time. Actually found myself going through some of my gear...not sure how soon I can make it happen, but the planning is now already happening...and that is the first step.
