I'm a little familiar with pillow ticking. Not that I'm a seamstress, but I have used it in several rifles. The pillow ticking I've used has the red &white or blue &white stripes on both sides of the material. But I have something that only has the stripes on one side. The other side is just plain, no stripes. It measures about .018 thick. Tried it in a rifle today and it liked it. Second rifle that likes this stuff. Need to know what it is so I can ask for it if I need more.

Tom, it might be what they call "seconds" a fabric (in this case pillow ticking) that simply didn't get printed on both sides... I don't know this for a fact, but it's possible? -or- Perhaps some companies are now making it this way (which shouldn't be a problem as a person (normally) only uses one side of the material that shows to the eye after making whatever they may make from the pillow ticking.  As long as it's 100% cotton - and it works & thickness is still the same, I wouldn't worry about it.

What you said definitely has possibilities. My neighbor said it was a lightweight denim. Didn't know they made denim with stripes. Don't want any jeans that look like this stuff. It has worked in 2 rifles so far,  so you're right, I'm going to use it and hope I don't run out of it.

As long as it is 100% cotton, has a tight weave, and is the thickness you want, it should work well in your muzzleloaders.
When I go shopping for "patch material" the above specs are what I'm looking for, I even take my micrometer with me, and when I find what I'm looking for I buy 6-8 yards of material at a time.

ticking with the stripes on both sides is that the colors are threads of said color woven into the weave, ones sided colors are printed on the material and may  have a synthetic in the weave, have you tried burning the material to see if it melts any?

I haven't tried burning it. But wouldn't I see some form of melting on the patches I have fired out of my rifle? The only difference in the two after being fired were, the one that only has stripes on one side shows just a little more fraying on the outside dia. Is it possible to shoot good groups using patches containing synthetic material? And I didn't notice any difference while cleaning or seeing anything unusual in the barrel after cleaning.[atta [ Invalid Attachment ] ch=1] This is the group shot using the patches in question.

Well Jim I went to see a Mennonite lady, who along with her husband have a store. She is very familiar with material, and her husband shoots and builds muzzleloaders. After talking to her for some time, she said it was a printed ticking. So you might be on to something. But she wanted to see if it would burn. So she lit the corner, put it out, and checked for any melting. No signs of any synthetics .Apparently it's 100% cotton and I'm good to go.
