Wood Boxes with Rope Handles

Several of my Wood Bxs with Rope Handles were US " Army "ammo boxes".😉

A few were plain wood / with printing on them, but most were painted US Army "dark olive drab". - the plain wood ones simply sanded off the printing. -- the "OD" I painted them ( I am with the NWC/ HBC & they painted stuff ( a barn red, a blue & dark green were 3 of the colors they often used.)

Some had "synthetic ropes) so I replaced with hemp rope. As to the "hardware" (hinges & hasps), some I left as were, others I replaced with "period".

Note in the "Old Camp" pic you can see some painted & some plain + note that "modern hardware" was not replaced (@ that time also those "metal handles" were removed & replaced with rope)
