What's it for?

No, don't fall off your chair thinking I need help in building a gun. Ain't gonna happen. But I would like to know what a broach is used for when building a gun?

Broaches are used for making a round hole square or for cutting a slot in a rod.  Not sure how either of those functions would be necessary in building a rifle.  Unless you would want something to shoot square bullets with??? :Doh!

A broach and shims are used to cut "riflings" in a barrel's bore.

After you cut the rifling, do you need a square bullet. Bigsmoke, you and  I need to invent a mold to make a square bullet. After you finish making those pretty powder horns. :Doh!
