People of the Times / 4/18/1842: Juan Seguin resigns as mayor of San Antonio
« Last post by Craig Tx on April 18, 2026, 10:03:38 AM »
On this day in 1842, Juan N. Seguin resigned as mayor of San Antonio.

Seguin, a native San Antonian, was born in 1806; his father Erasmo was a prominent public figure who later served as alcalde. Juan fought in the Texas Revolution, escaping death at the Alamo when he was sent out as a courier shortly before the fall of the citadel. Seguin was elected to the Republic of Texas Senate in 1837--the only Mexican Texan to serve in that body--but resigned in 1840 and was then elected mayor of San Antonio. His tenure in that office was controversial; his continuing conflicts with Anglo squatters on city property and his business correspondence with Mexico incriminated him in Gen. Rafael Vasquez's invasion of San Antonio in March 1842. Fearing for his life, Seguin resigned and fled with his family to Mexico. He participated in Adrian Woll's invasion of Texas in September 1842 and fought against the United States in the Mexican War but returned to Texas after the war. He died in Nuevo Laredo in 1890. The town of Seguin was named in his honor in 1839.

Well I said the rat target might follow me to the range the next time I go. I went and it did follow me. This time I had only a few more points. So I give up. Good target Nessmuk. My hat's off to Kevin. He did a good job on that target.

I did get a complete insurance claim check from UPS, received within a week.  I thought that was purty good.

That looks to me like a big insurance claim.
Years ago, my double 8 bore rifle was shipped back to me from Guns Magazine.  They had been doing an article on it.
When it was delivered, the left barrel was severely dented at the muzzle.  This necessitated complete teardown of the barrel set, circumcising a half inch off of both barrels, reassembly, regulating the barrel set, etc.
It cost FedEx over $2,000.
It did require a couple of office visits, schlepping stuff back and forth, etc., but I sure wasn't about to let them get away with such shoddy handling of the rifle.  It was packed in a hard shell rifle case with extra padding at both ends, and at least four layers of double corrugated cardboard at each end.  But the muzzle of the gun was still sticking out when delivered.  No idea how far it had to drop to do that.  But drop it must have.
Good luck getting the situation in hand.

I guess you're lucky it is such a clean break.
I've never had to repair such an insult.
I have however watched a lot of videos on stock fixes so that makes me somewhat of an expert  :hairy
Are you planning on adding any hidden reinforcement, pin or rod or something like that.
Just curious, looking forward to your results.

It's being shipped back to me (which in itself can be problematic!) but so far it looks like just a clean break.  Some quality BSI slow set epoxy should make for an near invisible fix and the stock wrist will be all the more stronger.
