That looks to me like a big insurance claim.
Years ago, my double 8 bore rifle was shipped back to me from Guns Magazine. They had been doing an article on it.
When it was delivered, the left barrel was severely dented at the muzzle. This necessitated complete teardown of the barrel set, circumcising a half inch off of both barrels, reassembly, regulating the barrel set, etc.
It cost FedEx over $2,000.
It did require a couple of office visits, schlepping stuff back and forth, etc., but I sure wasn't about to let them get away with such shoddy handling of the rifle. It was packed in a hard shell rifle case with extra padding at both ends, and at least four layers of double corrugated cardboard at each end. But the muzzle of the gun was still sticking out when delivered. No idea how far it had to drop to do that. But drop it must have.
Good luck getting the situation in hand.
