Navy Arms/Pietta 1860 Army...Opinions?
« on: August 02, 2009, 07:27:57 PM »
My friend wants to sell this revolver to me.   It was bought in the early 70's and is unfired.   Please tell me anything you can about this revolver.   Also, what would it be worth please?

My only experience with bp revolvers, stems from a ROA I have had for years......so, any info about this Navy Arms/ Pietta is appreciated!!!!

Very  accurate . Triggers usually are a bit stiff , but a little honing cures that !
As for worth check Cabelas for current price or Dixie Gun Works.

I also have a Navy Arms 1860 Army and love it. I`ve worked my load out to be 27grs. of Goex FFF, lubed wonder wad over powder and a 451 ball. It also seems to like the Remington #10 caps. Good luck with it you`ll wind up really liking it.

The 4th Edition Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms - 2004 has this to say.
MSR=$221
100% = 180
98% = 145
90% = 90
80% = 70
Add $100 for shoulder stock
Pretty good revolver although Pietta is my last choice for a replica.  I do prefer the Uberti myself.
With the instability of the $$$ on the international money market, the Euro has really taken off in value the last few years and makes these numbers almost meaningless.  As was mentioned previously, you might want to check Cabela's or Dixie or whatever to see what the current value of a NIB revolver is and transpose from there.  That will give you a good base to judge value.
As FG1 said, the trigger pull will probably be a bit stiff.  Also, it will probably shoot a bit high at 25 and 50 yards.  And you just gotta love Col. Colt's famous, patented disappearing rear sight.  Not quite like the ROA you are used to.
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest Up to God.

I have a brace of 1851 Navy's by Pietta, purchased from Dixie around 8 - 10 years ago.  Good shooters, I have had absolutely no problems with them at all.
