A very simple bag can be made like this.
Take 2 sheets of typing paper ( printer paper) and tape them end to end. Overlap the first on the second by about 3". Now if you fold that in half you will have the flap and the back panel. Measure about half way down the page and draw a line across. Take a 3rd sheet and cut to fit over the bottom half. Thats a simple pattern without a gusset.
you can round all the corners and trace it on a piece of leather or canvass. Sew the edges together and turn it inside out.
For a strap, use leather or burlap furniture webbing. Sew to the back of the bag.
Once again, this is a simple utilitarian bag, not strictly period correct for a reenactor. But, it works for a shooting/hunting  bag.
Look thru our gallery, I'm sure you will see lots of examples. Or go to Roaring Bulls site to see some fine examples.

T C Albert has a book on making shooting bags.  Should be able to find it at Track of the Wolf or Dixie.
They might have a few more, check 'em out.

Patterns, Nah not really.
 I have a few patterns like the ones you see everyone using. I worked in the ejection seat shop in the NAVY and we sewed up all kinds of bags.

I just took that experience and started modifying patterns to leather & cloth.

Save your money on books and do some looking around on  the internet.
I have cut mt patterns out of brown wrapping paper, cereal  boxes then once I'm satisfied with the look and shape they get transferred to plastic.
I took a 6 or 8 piece pattern and made it 3 pcs one main body and 2 gussets. I can even leave out a gusset and get a one piece body not including strap or belt loops for a belt bag.

Then if I'm in a good mood I'll add a few do-dads, little paint,trim ect...

I have pictures posted on my FB and ebay pages. Pics are to large a file to upload here.

Sorry guys that website has been dead awhile...

I draw all of my bag patterns on PowerPoint. Its easier to keep the lines even and the bags symmetrical. Print them out on paper and tape it together. Make changes as needed. Qhen it's perfect, trace the pieces out on car stock or some such thing and use as often as needed.
