Patterns, Nah not really.
I have a few patterns like the ones you see everyone using. I worked in the ejection seat shop in the NAVY and we sewed up all kinds of bags.
I just took that experience and started modifying patterns to leather & cloth.
Save your money on books and do some looking around on the internet.
I have cut mt patterns out of brown wrapping paper, cereal boxes then once I'm satisfied with the look and shape they get transferred to plastic.
I took a 6 or 8 piece pattern and made it 3 pcs one main body and 2 gussets. I can even leave out a gusset and get a one piece body not including strap or belt loops for a belt bag.
Then if I'm in a good mood I'll add a few do-dads, little paint,trim ect...
