French woodsrunners are credited with carrying three knives in the 18th century, but I have no doubt that this was so with many woodsmen. The French carried a neck knife, a hunting knife, & a legging knife. Whether this legging knife was secured to a garter or held inside the legging I can not say. I carry mine inside the top of my legging.

Just an update on the basic tools I carry. Since my last post I have added a .70 caliber smoothbore flintlock pistol. Took me a long time to find this one.

I made a new wood ram rod with an antler tip to replace the original shorter iron ramrod.

You mention your "powder bag" & using it to carry "extra" powder on long treks. Interesting, this is a new concept to me

Any "safety concerns ??

No safety concerns. My gunpowder bags are of leather, & the tops are folded & tied. Bags are lighter than powder horns & easier to carry in my pack.
