bending breach plug tang
« on: April 03, 2015, 10:01:09 PM »
Hi to all, I'm looking for some guidance or advice.  I've started working on the percussion early Lancaster and have the barrel bedded to the bottom of the inlay. The breach plug is snug to the stock but the end of the tang is still about the thickness of the metal high at the end.  Should I bend it down?
I can't lower the barrel anymore. Bending seems simple enough I think. Any ideas?

Most tangs are made from fairly soft steel so they can be bent to match the contour of the stock.  Take it slow.

Thanks Storm.  Put it in my vise, squared it up and using a contour duplicator made the slight bend using the barrel. Very little force needed.  Thanks again.  Tomorrow I'm going to Tennessee on a wild boar hunt. Be gone for a week so I'll start on the lock next.
