Rescue?

Local pawn has a .50 T/C Hawken percussion.  I'm pretty sure I can get it for under $100.  The barrel is quite brown inside, but I forgot my light and could not check it well.

Thoughts?

If the rest of the firearm appears decent and functional, I would be tempted to grab it. If necessary, a replacement barrel shouldn't be that hard to find. Just my two cents.

Under $100. Surely you must grab it.

If you can save the barrel you have a real bargain. If the barrel is toast, spending another $100 or so to have Ed Rayl or Bobby Hoyt rebore it to .54 caliber will give you a quality gun at a good price - and you can pick your rate of twist.

IBID on the previous responses. I would also further inspect the rifle by removing the barrel to get a better look at the stock in case there is a hidden crack.

Shoot, for $100 you can part it out and make a profit on it if it's not usable (cracked stock, bad barrel etc.

The barrel could possibly be reamed out to a smoothbore and end up an excellent gun.
