Though this could be a fake? I notice a cut in the front of the hammer cup and I'm not sure that's original? I've always been under the impression that cut was a modern alteration to eliminate stuck caps once fired.

Thanks for the above input. Looking for options and ideas basically. I had Pecotonica rough me out a Leman half stock but my finished rifle will be only inspired by such .
It will be a flintlock and have a couple of different locks that will fit, one being an L&R late english the other an L&R Maslin. It will be fitted with a 7/8", .45 barrel. [ Invalid Attachment ]

After reading the above, I feel I should clarify. The two locks mentioned are ones I have, am just trying to decide if I can reduce the size of the panel on the lock side to match either one. The maslin being a bit smaller plate size.

Just wondering why two different locks? IMHO, I would go with the one that's closest - and save the other lock for a possible project down the road. L&R makes good locks IMHO.

I use / shoot mainly .45 x 7/8 Green Mnt Barrels and have no complaints... What barrel maker are you using in this build. Just wondering.

Ohio Joe, no particular reason other than I have both on hand. I decided to go with an L&R late English with a double throat hammer.
The barrel I am using is an early cva with very minimal markings on barrel, no safety or place of origin clutter and a real low ser. number etc..I cut off the pattent breech and will install a very traditional flat based breechplug. The inside is like new so am keeping my finger crossed for a great shooter in that barrel.

I bet it will be a good shooter.    I shortened a .45 CVA Mnt Rifle Barrel that was made at least 40+ years ago and it's a great shooting barrel. I too went with the same style flat based breechplug... Good move!

I have two,"in the whites" I need to finish before I go much further on the Leman. A PA fowler and a restock of my Austin & Halleck. The A& H may need a real little bit of wood work yet but not much. They both have wonderfull curly maple stock wood.
