the faster I go, the behinder I get...
« on: September 19, 2019, 09:48:55 AM »
Been at my cabin on Snake Mountain for past 2 days. Got some much needed chores and weed eating done, but haven't seen the first deer. So much for putting some early season venison in the freezer...at least I have heard plenty of turkeys. Should be a good Spring season if winter isn't too brutal.

Now, I leave in about an hour to head for the Overmountain Trail Victory Celebration in Elizabethton, TN, which is an hour and a half from here. The problem is that I was in such a befuddled state (way too excited), when I packed for the trip that I left my Weskit back at the home lodge...besides just being frustrating, I realize more every day that I am my own worst enemy...

I have a checklist. I just didn't bother to use it. The "kick me" sign hanging from my hind quarters is getting larger by the day...lol

I can't think a time that I've ever set up camp, or went hunting, only to discover I'd forgotten at least one thing. :toast :*:

Ever try skinnin' a 400 lb. black bear with a patch knife that has a 2 1/2" blade, or put on a primitive ball castin' demonstration for the youngin's, and forgot to bring along the lead bar stock?  :Doh!
I'm sure there were a few kids wondering why I was meltin' perfectly good 54 cal. round balls and recastin' them with my primitive 54 cal. ball mold  :lol sign  :*:

Next March I'll be 80 if the Good Lord allows me to hit that mark and I'm having a very difficult time accepting the well ingrained lesson that's been beaten into my skull that.....I just can no longer do or perform like I could at 40!! :Doh! :o

But thank goodness I still have great vision and haven't forgotten how to use barrel sights!! :hairy

Still yet, as long as we are on this side of the grass, and as long as we still have Black Powder,  life is good.

Well Ray, if it makes you feel any better, I loaded up my pickup Monday morning to head out to the Range... Targets, Target stand, stapler & staples, shootin' Bag, powder horn, and my little coffee can with my cleaning stuff (like to give my rifle a quick cleaning at the Range when I'm done shooting - then clean it again when I get home), put my cleaning rods and always a spare ramrod (just in case) in the pickup... Yes sir, ready to go!

Got to the Range and had everything set up, went back to the pickup,,,,,,, where the hell did I put my rifle????? Left it at home of course, in my workshop..... :Doh! Fortunately I only live 1-1/2 miles from the local Range.

Yes sir, it happens to all of us and I'm only 62-1/2, but I can forget with the best of 'em!!! :lol sign

You guys really know how to lift my spirits. :bl th up Makes me feel better knowing I am not the only one that has forgotten "a thing or two."

I had a great time at the Overmountain Trail Victory Celebration, even without my Weskit... :lol sign

I took plenty of pictures. If I can get them small enough to put in my posts I will definitely share. :hairy
