Joe, whats not to like? Sir Michael has a real nice baker that Jess at the rifle shop built for him a bunch of years ago and that's his daily shooter, I've shot that thing a few times and it's a sweet shooter, Michael's persona is a Major of the 95th rifles, and his attire and camp with campaign furniture is top shelf! Puffer also has one of those bakers from Middlesex Village that he swapped an Ed Rayl barrel on it, we worked and polished the lock in my shop and made a new trigger for it and it is actually quite a good shooter also!

Jim, do you know if Ed Rayl is still rifling those smoothbore Baker barrels?

Ed has made me 3 barrels over the years (some years back) .40, .45, .54 (the last two for rifles I built for a friend) and they are IMHO - 100% A-O-K Number One Barrels!!! 

I do hope Ed is still at it.

Joe, he would not rifle the barrels from India, he would make a NEW barrel for the rifle, I think that I read on the ALR site last year that Ed was about a year out on barrel orders and he was not taking anymore orders as he was going to retire.

I don't begrudge Ed, his retirement - he's earned it that's for sure... I'm hoping he took on an apprentice (and maybe he did)?  Being back logged with so many barrel orders is a testament to how good they are, IMHO.

I'm thinking Two Steps has an Ed Rayl barrel on his rifle if I recall correctly?

Yes Sir he made quality barrels, I don't have a Rayl, I have an older Getz  54 swamped on the prom queen( built by Don) and a Bill Large 54 on a full stock mountain rifle I built a dozen years ago

I had Ed make a barrel for one of our Light American Sporting Rifles quite a few years ago, maybe 18-20, I think.  It was .62 caliber.  Although I liked 1:104 twist, he only was equipped to go 1:96.  Regardless, it shot quite well with the heavy powder charges I like.
I recall maybe 40 years ago, we used to sell Ed stuff for his shop.  Then he started making barrels and we never sold him anything again.  I enjoyed doing business with him, nice guy.

 PETE SHERAN's  = He made his from TRS Parts  ( he simply picked a specifc mdle. he wanted.,
 MICHAEL's was from TRS also ( specific mdle,)
 ME. Imported = "Ed's bbl.
