Meet Miss Daisy!
« on: August 01, 2020, 03:28:34 PM »
Everyone, I'd like to introduce you to Miss Daisy, my new 32 caliber flintlock squirrel rifle that I received Friday. This beauty, made by my dear friend, John Pruitt, has a Rice 42" octagon barrel, a large Siler lock, and a whole bunch of homemade "Pruitt Special" furniture. The stock is made from walnut off the Haverstick family farm and trimmed with Osage. I'm currently shooting 35 grains of 3F Goexx powder and a .31" inch patched round ball. It is devastating on squirrels! Pay no attention to the spelling on the side plate. John is a gunsmith, not a wordsmith. Besides, I think it adds a certain charm to the "riffle".

Nice! That Osage really sets it off and adds character. Is the barrel channel lined with Osage too? Hard to tell from pics but kind of looks like it. Congrats on a beautiful rifle!

I noticed the lock on the wrong side also, David.  Too bad, but a person can learn to live with it.  Or, always hold it in front of a mirror and you'll be fine.
Else, mighty fine riffle gun.  Watch out, you little tree rats.

I had that lock put on the wrong side on purpose. I shoot it upside down to give them bushytails a sporting chance. Otherwise, it wouldn't be hunting, it would just be killing.

Howdy, Ms. Daisy.

That's a very attractive and well built squirrel-getter.  The architecture is very interesting.  What original rifle/builder inspired Ms. Daisy?
