 Solder most likely but leather is not out of the question.

  Funny hearing folks worry about soldering a flask. I soldered mine with a micro torch a while back. No problems. Getting the crud out was what I was worried about, but muriatic acid cured that. Ya'll ain't talking soldering one full are you?

There can absolutely be no concern about soldering a metal powder flask as long as the flask innards are cleaned out. 

This is a no-brainer no-big-deal.

The fear was more tongue in cheek than real.
 It will become a Xmas ornament or wall art.
 Now I have to get back to practicing my scrimshaw..
