My Colonial Lap Desk

.

I saw one of these lap desks in an antique store, and decided to clone it.

I use it both on my lap, and in an area where there's no convenient writing surface (like in a vehicle)

The bottom is covered with felt, so as to not scratch whatever it's used on.

Granted, it's been a long time but yours looks very much like the one I saw at Locust Grove. Well done!

Nicely done. I have one about that size I got off a trade blanket, I also have a larger version made by a friend. I find myself using the larger one more than the smaller.

That would be a handy item to have. It would be a great conversation piece for sure, and usable.  :hairy

Be neat to get a small bottle of ink and feather to write with.

This thread has reminded me that I still have an ink well, packet of powdered ink and leather bound journal from that trip! The quill got trimmed down to a nubin, I never could get it trimmed right.  Thanks for kicking my memory!  :toast
