Not much happening here.
Went to a gun show a week or so ago and took my northstar chiefs grade smoothbore to sell
Didn't even get out of the parking lot with it before I sold it
That enabled me to order a new kibler kit
Put a couple new straps on some bags
This one belongs to our friend Eric
 [ Invalid Attachment ]
The old strap was too thin and needed a new buckle.

This one is a bag I started a few years ago and just never finished.
Thought I'd try something besides a buckle

Gonna make a few new bags and start a few new horns
Waiting on rendezvous season to start .

Well you won't have to long for the rendezvous season to start. Just talked to the landowner where we have our shoots this morning. He said, do you realize it's only 4 weeks till our first shoot.
That's some pretty good looking stuff you're making buddy. Like the button, and Eric should like that strap.

Decided to work on the patch box of my auction rifle.
Lots of wood filler was used by someone in the past. The lid of the the patch box was epoxied shut
I'd really like to use the box so figured clean it up and glue in a plug so I can start fresh
I've got all the fixings to make the spring and catch.

If you look just south of the box you can see two lines where the stock had been broken in the past and repaired
Might refinish the stock, might not

Looks like a daunting project, my friend.  You are just too ambitious.  Best of success on it.

Meanwhile in LaLaLand, I am just getting ready to head up to Templeton to pick up my muzzleloader from the gunsmith.  I had him convert the smoothbore barrel from flintlock to percussion.  Then I might swing by the newly opened rifle range to check it out on the way home.  I will report after I get back as to whether or not they welcome the delightful aroma of sulphur smoke there.

I wish that gun could talk Kevin. I think it would have some interesting stories stories to tell. When I look at that gun, I see one that might not win any beauty pageants, but I see a lot of 10x's in the postal shoots. You can do it Kevin. And John, looking forward to that range time report. And how could anybody not like the aroma your describing.

Well, I was able to get up to Templeton and redeem my rifle smoothbore that was being held for ransom.  The gunsmith performed several other little tweaks that he felt would make the gun shoot better.  He tested it with several caps and they all ignited just fine.  The only problem was that he used CCI caps which defiled it.  RWS caps would have been much preferred.  Gee whiz, aren't I whiney today?  Good idea, think I will have a glass with dinner tonight.
Anyway, ran out of time so didn't stop by the gun range but next week looks promising, maybe.
Other good news is I ordered a new camera and it was delivered today while I was out.  I am looking forward to much better quality photos in the future.  Especially close up ones. My old camera stopped working with the macro setting.  The new camera has 4 different macro lenses, so I should be able to really get up close and personal.

So got the plug pretty well cut it to match the butt
 [ Invalid Attachment ]
But the way I was going to install the lid catch ain't gonna work
 [ Invalid Attachment ]
So after playing with a few different things I think this may work as a simple catch.
  [ Invalid Attachment ]
Just a piece of hacksaw blade, mocked up on some scrap wood for now.
It should fit between the butt plate and just catch the lid.
But that's it for now, it'll have to wait till next weekend.

I envy your ability to do things like that. Good luck. My wife and I went to a wild game feed at a local church last evening. Plenty of really good food and fellowship. Even saw some beaver. After reading some negative things about beaver, I just couldn't bring myself to try any of it And they had lots of door prizes. But nothing black powder related. I did win these two items, so was feeling pretty good. [ Invalid Attachment ]

Ain't nuthin wrong with winning a few prizes.
I haven't tried beaver either but I did learn once at a place called
Saint marie among the Iroquois ,( a 1600s interpretative center in Syracuse)
That beaver was consider a fish by the priests , due to it living mostly in water
Therefore it was ok to eat on fridays during lent.
There's a way around everything.
