Well, shucks, that's just a shame.
I do recall meeting him a few times over the years and having a couple of phone conversations about what, I cannot recall, most likely powder horns.
I think the obit was pretty much right on, to me he was just that kind of fellow.
RIP, Bill, you will be missed.

Don't really know why, but I was surprised he was that young.

That just doesn't sound right.  If he was 65, he would have been born in 1959.  I just looked at the printing date of the Book of Buckskinning (1st edition) and it was 1981 which would have made him 22 years old, and Scurlock publishing was already a going concern.  I suppose it might be correct but it seems he should have been another 5 years older at least.

No matter, may he rest in peace!

I did a search and this came up: https://www.texarkanafuneralhome.com/obituary/william-bill-scurlock
Born October 25, 1958, so he died just short of his 66th birthday.

Kees, IIRC, Bill Scurlock's dad actually started the magazine and he stepped in and broadened its range.
That could explain why he was so young sounding.
I recall when I met him, I think it was at Friendship, he did seem quite a bit younger than I was at the time.  evidently, I was right about that, by about 14 years.  I am thinking that would have been in the late 1980's, so he was already up and running in the publishing business.

The obituary says that Bill was the founder of Muzzleloader Magazine, no mention of his Dad in that capacity.  It's a puzzle, that's for sure!
