Won this full stock,  probably a .45 , rifle at today's auction.
Not sure about the history or anything yet but once I get her home and look into it
I'll have a better idea on caliber and such.
 This disease is terrible  :luff:
Ps got this hawk to go with it

You win again!!
But the hawk looks like it has tire tracks on it?
Sure wish something like that would happen in Kalifornia.

Congratulations, Kev! I'm anxious to see it first-hand. It's got an interesting buttplate profile-- looks like an S-curve. How does it feel when shouldered?

Probably just the angle of the photo.
 It shoulders just fine.
For so odd reason the patch box is soldered shut.
Upon inspection there is no latch or spring just the crudely carved out hole for the box.
I'll bring it for the Sunday party, see what folks thoughts are.
 Definitely needing some TLC.

A little more digging into this gun makes think it is a homemade one rather a kit built one.
For instance a brazed or welded on bolster, obviously two piece

Very rough filing on all the parts

I'd say this is a hand built trigger assembly

I ordered a patch lid spring kit from TOTW, gonna see if I can get the lid working again.
I was able to clean the inner workings of the lock and it will pop a cap so that's something.

I'm assuming you are planning on shooting that firearm as long as it is safe to do so. Rightly so. Now, are you planning on throwing the hawk, or do you consider it too pretty to throw it? Enjoying your updates. Keep em comin.

Ya know I'm not sure on the hawk yet.
I think it was made as a decorative piece, doesn't look like it ever had an edge on it, not that it won't in the future
 It's certainly solid construction.
As far as the gun, heck yeah I plan on shooting it.
Seems to be pretty sound, tore it all apart, bore is nice and clean, pulled the nipple and ran gun cleaner down the hole and flushed everything out.
The hammer had a bit of a wobble in it on the tumbler post but fixed that with a couple small soda can shims.
 Nice and snug now

Had to order a long cleaning jag as my longest rod and jag comes out about an inch short of the breech.
 41" barrel

You're probably right about the hawk being more for decoration. Make up a story about how you killed a Griz with it after your gun misfired and hang it on the wall. Glad the gun is coming together for you.
