I'm not sure the civil war thing is going to work out.
My work schedule is pretty bad and i don't think I am going to be able to get with a group.
I may just go back to what i'm really interested in too of early american history and pioneering/longhunter period of this area.

Don't give up entirely. If you get with the right group they will let you be who you want to be and shoot what you want to shoot.
The club I belong to is a loosely knit group of old timers that range from colonials to buckskinners to CW. So long as you are shooting a muzzleloader you're pretty much ok.

Hello the camp!  I do both Civil War and mid 18th cent reenacting. It can be hard to find the time if you live where the action is I am sure, but around here in Lousyanna, there are many more CW opportunities than 18th cent ones.  I was 'drug into' CW by a buddy with a cannon who needed a crew several years ago.  Now we are very active with a number of events in the arklatex area.  The next big one is Mansfield/Pleasant Hill in April--the biggest battle(s) west of the Miss River [also called Sabine Crossroads].  You have gotten good advice about seeking out local units and finding out what they require as to clothing/uniforms and equipment.  It can be kinda expensive to get equipped, but you can find used clothing and gear that can cut the costs in half--and look 'more better' than if afield 'all new and shiny'.  Our battery started out with a single Parrot Rifle [cannon] but now has added a Napolean and a Mt Howitzer.  These are expensive toys, but all have been donated to us!  That is the only way we could form a battery--we'ens is all po'.

Reenacting the War for Southern Independence has occupied nearly 20 years of my weekends.  There is a good deal of fun to be had and many good people to have it with!  If you have a horse (and can ride safely) the Sixth Kentucky Cavalry is always looking for good men!  I live just south of Covington and many of our members live within an hour or two of Cincy.  We've done events as close as Georgetown, OH and as far away as Corinth, Mississippi and Chickamauga in Northern Georgia!  There are several other units in the Cincinnati Area - Cav, Infantry and Artillery!  Shoot me a pm or drop an email to jeffglaza@gmail.com if I can be of any help.

Godspeed!
