Fitting the nose cap??? and progress pictures

I'm getting ready to fit the brass nose cap on my Mark Silver Virginia rifle from Jim Chambers and I'm wondering if it is too small?
They say a picture is worth a thousand words so I'll add a few. I know I need to remove some more wood from the forend, the pencil lines are 1/16" from the barrel edge. Would it help to anneal the brass so I can work it better?

For interest sake can you tell us something about the barrel?  Is that coned?  Caliber?  I see it has round bottom rifling, who made it?  Thanks...

The barrel is a Rice, 58 cal, 1 in 66 twist, 42" long, it is not coned. It came from Jim Chambers as part of the kit I bought; their Mark Silver Virginia rifle.

Thanks.  It is cut out a little around the interior at the muzzle, though, just wonder why that is...
