BOX LOCK PISTOL ??-PUFFER
« on: October 31, 2009, 12:35:11 PM »
I have been communicating with a Lady & Gent that portray an "upper class" "Georgian" couple. They both are Modern CCers. & we have been discussing the fact that CC was often the NORM during this time ( as well as before & after.) Both men & women carried  on the street , traveling etc.)

They carried "small pistols" They are referred to as Pocket pistols,Muff pistols, over coat pistols, boot pistols ( these last 2 were often larger) etc.

These "small pistols" varied in "style" BUT it seems that the MOST POPULAR, was the BOX LOCK.

Here is a site to look at.

?????

1. Do any of you own one ??
2. Pictures, Historical references etc
3. Are Reproductions Avail ?? ( good ones that can be fired )

I have a friend who portrays a gentleman physician and surgeon of 1760 Boston.  His persona would no more go about unarmed than he would walk about the city naked,  no self respecting person of the time would.  He carries a dagger, a pocket pistol, a cane with a sword in it and a sword.  (His pistol is an original, worth as much as my house.)

I've been looking at these. 8)   I've seen a lot of pocket pistols like these in gun auctions and other places with original weapons.
