Funny how ya miss some folks. I would love to hear stories from Jerry about his "little three-two"....a wonderful shooting little .32 by CVA if I remember correctly.
Tom was another fine knife maker, and I haven't seen him around for quite awhile either.
For the younger / newer members, there was a time when Tom, Jerry, Beaverman, Longhunter, Snake eyes, myself, and several others were card-carrying members of the Great Knifeoholics Club, right here on this forum....a simple 10 step process that helped keep yer head screwed on right!
A bit off topic but a quick story on Tom's infamous "Trap Spring Blade"..............................
Last year I had a little chat with a State Patrolman while hunting up at Chesaw on the Canadian Border.
I had just crossed over this hill when I saw a dirt road below me...I was standing there looking at my map, trying to get my bearings...a dirt road in the absolute middle of nowhere was the last thing I expected to find, when this State Patrol car came by, passed on the road under me, and then backed up!
Uhh-ooh!At first I thought I must have been in some kind of violation, too close to the road with a loaded rifle, something was wrong, and i had no clue... you know, all those crazy thoughts that might go through your mind when something like this happens.
I was pretty much in traditional dress, fancy shoulder bag, nice horn by Griz, a walnut dyed frock, wide outside waist belt with Tom's trap spring blade hanging there, that and my longrifle, and this State patrolman motions and calls me down to palaver.
It turned out to be just a regular conversation, wha'cha seen? where ya from? did you just come through the pass? do you enjoy muzzleloading? Little old fer these mountains ain't ya?
Just regular talk....he didn't ask me about my hunting license, ID, or anything else, just good ol'boy talk. Muzzleloaders what they'll do, what they won't do, why is it so long?
And, is that a knife?
Here I was, a $1,000 Pennsylvania Long Rifle, a old man dressed like he just stepped out of a time capsule, and he wanted to talk about this homemade knife and sheath? We must have talked for a good solid half-hour before he left.
I checked my knife two or three times going back through the pass just to make sure he hadn't ripped me off, but he hadn't.
In fact, I would almost bet that young fella just may have himself a muzzle loader for the next season. A very nice, pleasant young man in a tough profession.
I wish him luck, and I truly hope he finds time to get a muzzleloader and gets out in the woods...I also hope he finds himself a nice Trap Spring Blade somewhere.
