Rug Loom
« on: March 15, 2012, 01:04:58 PM »
My latest project. A red oak frame loom for the wife's sister. Makes a 48x24 rug from cloth scraps. Finish is 2 coats of tung oil.
Place your clothes and your weapons where you can find them in the dark.

It is a rag rug but not the usual style. Most rag rugs are made of braided rags sewn together is a spiral or are woven an a floor loom. This loom uses the same material for the warp and the weft with the two strips of material woven back and forth thru the vertical lines. It is kind of hard to explain but it makes very durable and colorful rugs.

My wife buys blue jeans at yard sales for 50 cents and cuts them into 1 inch strips for weaving. Those rugs wear like iron.

I will try to get photos when the rug is done.

Finally got pictures of the loom with a rug on it. Rug is made out of scraps of cotton cloth. You can see how the two strips are interwoven.
