Scabbard For A Hunting Sword

Finished this one yesterday. It was made for the 18" blade shell guard hunting sword by Kyle Willyard. 7 to 8 oz vege-tan leather, Mounts are low carb 22 ga. steel, all hand made and hand formed. The locket on the throat is sawed, ground, and filed to shape from a 3/8" bar, silver brazed on with a reinforcement pin though the throat. The leather is mildly hardened, and oiled. The steel mounts were cold browned to match the sword. Now I have make a shoulder strapped frog for it. Hope you enjoy a look.

The locket is the frog stud, or can be considered the entire throat assembly. It depends on who one is talking with apparently. The throat can be the blade entrance, or the entire assembly also. I have also seen the throat assembly refered to as the chape, but I thought the tip was the chape. It is a bit confusing. I am still learning myself.

OOOOHHHHHH...

I don't have a hunting sword yet, but I do have a machete with a 22" blade that needs a nice centerseam leather sheath (minus the metalwork).  ;)

No seriously. I do. I was going to make one but the leather I have is too thin. Durn machete sliced right through it. I can actually shave with it.

Whenever I see LRB in title,I know I'm going to awe struck by the fine workmanship that this man is capable of doing. I am NEVER dissappointed by what you do.

I need to learn the scabberd making tecknique. I have a short sword and a hunting sword I hammered out a few years ago that are on my to do list when my shop gets built this spring,I just hope mine turns out half as good as yours,which means it'll be twice as good as I'm capable of doing! :?
