new moc's
« on: May 17, 2013, 05:02:55 PM »
I just bought a elk skin center seam moc kit and it came with a wool liner that is supposted to be sewn into the moc as a liner.  I was curious if anyone has done this or just made their moc's with no liner.  I'm thinking the liner will cusion and be warmer in winter, but maybe too hot in summer. ????? Not sure, let me know what ya'll think.   Thanks Garry

Basically an OK idea, but be careful to get the liner stitched in even inside the main panels.
If it moves around you will wear it out quickly and probably be prone to blisters.

Personally I prefer a double sole for foot protection from rocks and cold and the moc a bit
oversized for cold weather so I can fill in with socks for warmth.

Making a pair of mocs with a sewn-in liner is a real pain in the backside! I'm with Fletcher on this one, you're better off making a larger pair and wearing extra socks.

yep what the others said .
but if you want cushion ,  go get a piece of  horse hair saddle blanket  or some felt carpet pad . You want  something at least ½ thick .
Slip your finished Moc’s on and stand on the pad . Trace your foot  outline and then cut to the inside of what you trace ..
Slip the cut out into your Moc and you now have at least some padding .
Frankly that’s what I do in all my Moc’s anymore .

 Now the problem
Depending on how you actually set your foot down  when you walk , you probably going to find that your center seams will roll a little after they break in  .
Case in point .  The seam on my right foot stays mostly  center . But my left foot rolls alittle when I walk and thus  the seem curves to the out side .

This roll causes the insert to sometimes drift with that roll . So I have to stop , take the Moc off , slide the insert back down  and then go on about my day ..
the same thing happens with a thicke piece of leather if put on the inside .  for me it still rolls and i end up walking off the side of it .
Speaking from experience , you also don’t want to glue it in.
It will just come lose and ones the insert wears , you then feel the glue , even if you use rubber cement

Thanks for the input guy's.  I was surprised when the kit showed up with the liner, wasn't sure if I wanted to mess with it or not.  I'll go without the liner, I think it'll be easier anyway.   I'll post some pic's when I'm done, hopefully I don't mess them up too much.

Carbon fiber arch support with a Dr. Scholls gellin' insert and your good to go. If not you'll end up with plantairs faceitis( spelling is off, too many years since Med School)

No one can see inside yer Mocc's, and as far as h/c-p/c,unless you have walked your whole life without arch supports, you need them.

99.9% of the time I wear socks...pretty thick ones.  I also have cushion inserts that I use.  Ain't nobody gonna stick their face in my mocs to see what's there

Historically Neeps were worn with Mocs.  Socks could be considered just fancy Neeps.

Corrections the spelling used in 1819 was Neips.  They are essentially a flat square or rectangular sheet of material that is wrapped around the foot before putting on mocs or shoes.  Google Foorwrap and you'll find a bunch of pics and instructions for putting them on.
