Never heard of it before. In fact, I would have never thought of it either, that is before seeing this...

Old hat here. I used to teach Boy Scouts how to do that. And yes, it's harder than it looks. Ya gotta have really good, clear ice.

Figgered as much...plus, the outside temp has to be just right so that it is dripping melt...good luck trying to do that at 15 deg F...
