A new gun is on the horizon
« on: January 06, 2015, 08:51:15 PM »
In the Jan/Feb issue of Muzzleloader magazine there's an article on contemporary gun maker Jesse Brennan. Jesse is the son of Jud Brennan who some say is one of the best gun makers in the country. It's obvious from some of the work Jesse has done that he definitely inherited his fathers artistic talent.

I have several of Juds guns that he made for me over 35 years ago so I thought it would be great to have a gun made by his very talented son. I've talked to Jesse by phone a couple times and told him that I'd like to have a Fusil de chasse, French Tulle. I like that style and I think it would fit my French Canadian ancestry. I talked to John Getz about making a 44" 20ga barrel...so the ball is rolling.  :roll eyes

That is a beauty! Amazing how simple and plain leads to elegance. I'm hoping that a Tulle is on scene at the next TN gathering of KY longrifles so I can shoulder.

I found that picture on line and pulled it off to show what a Tulle looks like. Jesse like his dad is an artist at engraving and carving. I'd like a little of that talent to show on the gun he builds for me. The question is, how much of his artistic ability will I be able to afford..  ;)

Jud knows how to age a rifle quite nicely. Better start a change jar for all that artistic ability. But we only live once, my significant other is wondering why I'm having a rifle built while I build myself. Its simple hun I'm not Allen martin!  Enjoy Ron, I dont think there will be any disappointment!

Having met Jud and handled a few of his guns, I'm thinking if his son has 1/2 his ability, you'll be mighty happy!

Bon chance et bon chasse!!

A little story about Jud

I've known Jud and his wife Julie for 40 years. They use to live here in Michigan before they moved to Alaska in 1985. I use to stop at Juds place every day on the way home from work. In those years from 75 to 85 Jud built some guns for me. I've got 6 flintlock long guns and 1 flint pistol with the Brennan name on them.

The Brennans had a passel of young-en's and one time some years back they came back to Michigan to visit their folks. They stopped off at our place and we had a good visit, then I suggested we go to Pizza- Hut for lunch. We all loaded in their car and ours and away we went. After lunch when we left, some of the kids wanted to ride with my wife and I so we split up and took off. We got to where we were going not far away to some other friends of Jud and Julies and the kids all bailed out and started playing in the back yard while the adults visited. Long story short when we left the Pizza Hut one of the kids was in the bath room and got left behind.. :laffing
